Colorado Mesa University’s Garfield Residence Hall was featured in Learning By Design’s Architectural Design Showcase as a 2016 Outstanding Project. CMU’s Housing Demand Study identified that 40% of students would be willing to live in traditional dorms. This option had been overlooked previously and on-campus options only included apartments, suites and semi-suites. This provided an opportunity to expand housing efficiently using high-density traditional dorm design. Combining fun and learning, Design West employee Derek Christiansen volunteered with AIA Utah to help local students at Canyon View Elementary in Davis School District build a city out of boxes. Derek and his team taught the kids about architecture and urban design while exploring creative thinking, design, city planning, historic preservation, construction and art. It’s not every day that an architect gets to design a new building to look like it’s from the turn-of-the-century. Design West is thrilled to be selected as Lehi City Fire Station 83’s designer and work with the Fire Department to make their vision a reality in the Traverse Mountain area. The rendering below was just one of the many options our team explored with Lehi’s Fire Chief and key stakeholders during the initial programming meeting December 15th.
Construction is underway for the new Farmington City Gym & Park. Design West Architects is providing Landscape Architecture design for the future park which will include a softball complex, basketball and pickleball courts, open space, playground, as well as a trail system that ties into surrounding trails.
