CMU Pinon Hall

Student Housing Renovation
The renovation of Piñon Hall transforms the 1960’s-era building, bringing it up to 21st century standards. The interior renovation provides students with a residential experience that combines academics with resources that budding entrepreneurs require including “garage” workspace, office space, conference rooms, enhanced technology and mentorship. Design West worked with CMU to expedite the design and construction schedule which allowed the University to maintain normal operations by completing construction over one summer. The project incorporates “green construction” including sustainable materials, energy efficient mechanical and electrical systems, natural day lighting and operable windows, low water usage fixtures and superior standards for air quality.
The Pinon Living Learning Center project was designed to encourage integration and collaboration of students learning accross disciplines, as well as supporting the creation of new businesses. Building upon successful models implemented at other institutions, the project provides interested students with a residential experince that combines academic content, entrepreneurship, mentoring, 24/7 office space, and enhanced technology that budding entrepreneurs require. Pinon Hall, an existing 195-bed residence hall on the University's main campus in Grand Junction, CO, was chosen as the renovated space for future young entrepreneurs and innovators.
